2 Million Euro Investment

Over the last decade San Pedro de Alcantara has undergone a major transformation. First the much awaited underpass was completed to take heavy traffic away from the town centre. This not only made it a much safer place, cleaner and quieter, it also helped stop some of the enormous traffic queues that formed every summer either side of the town.

After the underpass came the San Pedro Boulevard, an area running above the underpass that is now one of the most popular places for people to come and enjoy the weather. This gave San Pedro a new lease of life and together with some brand new stylish apartments constructed by Taylor Wimpey the area suddenly became the place everyone wanted to live and go out in.

New restaurants started popping up, almost weekly at one stage and there are now regular events on the Boulevard area which bring in visitors from all over the Costa del Sol. It still takes some getting used to seeing white taxi’s pulling up and dropping car loads of tourists off at the restaurants.

San Pedro de Alcantara stormed its way onto the holiday destination map with holiday apartments and long-term rentals all now at a premium.

But it is not stopping there. San Pedro de Alcantara are about to invest a further €2 million in smartening up the upper part of town and making even more of it pedestrian only. The town centre area around Marques del Duero will benefit from new signage, new street furniture and less cars. In addition, due to all the new building work that has resulted in more properties, and therefore more strain on the current infrastructure, there will be an overhaul of the sanitation system, telecommunications network and even a new gas supply to the area.

The work is due to start this February and is expected to last for around 10-months. The result of the work will also see street parking all but eliminated and the pavements made much wider.
