San Pedro Alcántara has local restaurants that are unknown to many, as we all tend to move in small circles and our comfort areas, but if you fancy knowing a little more about the town’s different neighbourhoods, here’s is a suggestion for the part of town around Urbanización Guadalcántara.
LA TRADICIONAL:
Their logo La Tradicional – Cocina de Verdad (The Traditional – Honest Cuisine), is an example of the culinary service from this family run restaurant, which offers a daily menu. Famous among locals and busy during the week especially with workers looking for a substantial meal, La Traditional serves such dishes as potato and rib stew, ratatouille and fried eggs (my favourite!), stuffed aubergines, chicken in almond sauce, panacotta and rice pudding. Everything is homemade.
Located on the corner of C/Cuenca and C/ Palencia.
LIZARRAN
Only opened around 6 months ago, but in full swing, this restaurant located in the actual plaza between the four streets of C/Cuenca, C/ Palencia, C/ Maikane and C/ Linda Vista, is known for its ‘tapas calentitos’ (hot tapas). A good place for meat lovers, their delicious picaña (a popular cut of meat from Brazil) and sirloin kebabs are to die for. However, best of all for those with a sweet tooth are their desserts served as lollipop sticks.
LA COCINA DE SANTOS
This long running family business is a very popular choice for family gatherings among Spanish locals. They serve varied dishes of meat, daily fresh fish and shellfish, with excellent wines at reasonable prices. You can also just pop by for a drink and tapa on their large terrace.
LA + FRIA
This restaurant with spacious outside seating area is located in the same square and according to their website has “The purest Andalusian tapas.” It’s a great place to share tapas and half rations enjoying the coldest beer (hence its name La + Fria – The Coldest), seafood straight from Cádiz, and also excellent Jamón Serrano and their well-known pork in whisky sauce.
