Basketball in San Pedro

With school starting just around the corner, parents are already busy planning their children’s extracurricular activities. So with this in mind, a good team sport for them to enjoy is basketball and San Pedro de Alcanatara offers two main official clubs, both with a wide variety of nationalities and their coaches speak English too, so there are no communication barriers at all. This is a great way for kids to make friends as well as enjoying a unique atmosphere.

The preseason has already begun at all sports clubs in San Pedro, and they are now actively promoting the 2018/19 season. Both basketball clubs train and compete at the sports centre in San Pedro – known as the Palacio de Deportes.

CB SAN PEDRO
CB San Pedro started in the 1980s with the first team officially federated in 1983. They currently have teams of all ages starting with Babybasket Mixto (5 years) to Senior Masculino +35 (senior men over 35).

Recognised last season as the best club in Málaga by the Andalusian Basketball Federation, their teams compete at the highest level both in training and competition, last season entering 9 Final Fours of the Championship and Gold Phase. Their coaches are qualified and have extensive experience on the bench and their objective is to extend the club philosophy among children of all ages. Both boys and girls who want to play basketball can go along to try.

LINCES SAN PEDRO
Formed as a basketball club just over three years ago but currently consolidated as a complete professional basketball entity, this club was initially started by a group of parents and players from San Pedro Alcántara who decided to begin this ambitious project.

With two coaches involved and about 20 children initially (girls & boys), the club has undergone much improvement and has grown to work with all San Pedro’s local schools and international colleges. A summer camp was set up with more than a hundred players from all categories.

All this great work has led to last Friday when Linces San Pedro received a special prize for last season’s community work presented at the 3rd Sports Recognition Ceremony that took place at San Pedro’s Boulevard. But this is only the beginning as this season they are expanding with new equipment, continuing the club’s social events and taking on a new basketball coach, Jeffrey Lacey.

Linces San Pedro’s main goal is to train ALL young people who want to learn and enjoy basketball to the full, including instilling values of team spirit and camaraderie.
