Pedestrianisation Marques del Duero

The deputy mayor of San Pedro, Rafael Piña, has weathered a tense meeting held on 14 February with merchants and residents of San Pedro de Trapiche de Guadaiza to discuss the possible pedestrianisation of Marqués del Duero.

A cross section of the majority of business owners from the area attended the meeting and expressed their opposition to closing traffic, arguing it would result in a future decline in their income.

The deputy mayor has indicated that the decision on whether to walk the road will be decided by all the people of San Pedro, not only the merchants and affected residents, with a referendum-type consultation to be held in a few weeks.

Piña has ensured that subsequent to the referendum this decision will be binding, adding that it is totally in favor of being pedestrianised and will campaign to do so.

Many business owners are already up in arms about the disruption due to the major works that have just been completed and have expressed dissatisfaction at the quality of the roads and pavements as a result.
