Tapas route in Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara

More than 50 establishments will participate in the 11th edition of the ‘Ruta de la Tapa Marbella-San Pedro 2019’, which will be held from the 21st to 23rd of June. The much-anticipated event was announced in a presentation earlier this week by José Eduardo Díaz, acting councillor of commerce. He pointed out that “this gastronomic event, already a consolidated part of the town’s agenda, encourages the discovery of the area in a different way through gastronomy.”

The mayor, accompanied by the president of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises of Marbella (APYMEM), Enrique Guerrero, explained that this activity “was created to boost and support the local hospitality sector,” and further stated “it’s also an initiative that helps us towards becoming the ‘Gastronomic Capital of Spain 2020’”. Each edition of the Ruta involves up to 100 establishments and more than 10,000 people take part. In addition, a selection of bars and restaurants along the proposed route will offer tapas and a drink combination for €3.

The participating public are also in with a chance of winning great prizes by voting for their favourite tapa artwork at each eatery. Prizes include free cinema tickets at Teatro Goya in Puerto Banús and a spa day at Plaza del Mar. Simply enter by presenting your stamped ‘passport’ at the Tourist Office of Marbella or San Pedro. You must show that you’ve visited six establishments on the route.

One of this year’s novelties is the ‘fold-out brochure’ with the participating establishments, which is more visual and practical and this year the awards category have been split into two types:

These being the ‘Most popular bar tapa’ voted by the public, and the ‘5-star bar’ is the second prize and is decided by foodie experts and teachers from catering schools in the area.
