In past blogs, we have written about the neighbourhood of El Ingenio in San Pedro, which is well known being located in front of the La Colonia commercial centre, where McDonald’s is, and has an interesting history dating back to the 19th century.
But on this occasion, we would like to let you know about the charming little festivity that happens this weekend, from Friday 12 until Tuesday 16.
Although not a bank holiday, El Ingenio celebrates its 40th anniversary – Verbena Virgen del Carmen – with a small funfair for all the family that includes the usual fairground attractions, shooting, darts, children’s activities (plasticine, drawing competition, foam party, sack race, cakes and refreshments etc.) plus live music and processions.
Friday 12
19:00hrs – Dia del niño: with special prices for kids for this day only at the fairground sideshows and stalls
Saturday 13
21:30hrs – Official ribbon cutting and the inauguration of the fair by local officials
22:00hrs – Coronation of the Queens, Ladies, Most Popular Queen and the King of the Verbena Virgen del Carmen El Ingenio 2019
Then the dancing will start in the main fairground marquee with the Metropolis Orchestra and New Velada
Sunday 14
12.00hrs – Ribbons race
12:30hrs – Sack race
13:00hrs – Popular children’s games at the Julio Romero de Torres Neighbourhood Association including plasticine competition and drawing
17:30hrs – Foam party with cake and refreshments for all children in Calle La Morena
18:00hrs -22:00hrs – Religious ceremony in honour of the Virgen del Carmen for its 40th Anniversary at the El Ingenio Chapel
22:00hrs – Followed by a dance at the fairground marquee with the Metropolis and New Velada Orchestras
Monday 15
19:00hrs – Opening of the fairground attractions
22:00hrs – Dancing at the fairground marquee with the New Velada Orchestra
22.25hrs – Musical band in concert (free entry)
Tuesday 16
A special day dedicated to the acts in honour of the Virgen del Carmen organized by the A.V.V. Julio Romero de Torres
07.00hrs – Religious ceremony for the Virgin of Carmen directed by the parish priest D. Manuel Roldan López
Free churros and chocolate tasting (the neighbourhood association Julio Romero de Torres is pleased to invite all attendees to the Rosario de la Aurora to churros with chocolate at the fairground)
Celebration of the 40th anniversary
19:00hrs – Mass in Calle La Morera next to the La Alcoholera building officiated by D. Manuel Roldan López
Itinerary of the procession: leaving from Calle La Morena at the end of the mass accompanied by the municipal band
Processional route: C / José Echegaray down to the eucalyptus tree area, followed by boat-boarding if weather permitting, accompanied by the Rociero Virgen Madre choir from Nueva Andalucía
The return of the procession will be made from the eucalyptus tree area and up C/José Echegaray, C/La Cantera, C/José Echegaray, C/Julio Romero de Torres and back to the chapel
22:00hrs – Dance at the fairground marquee with a performance by the Orchestra New Velada
